On the occasion of World Alzheimer's Month, which falls on September each year, Al-Rajhi Bank and its employees have supported the “You Think It’s Only Forgetting" campaign adopted by the Saudi Alzheimer's Disease Association.

In coordination with the Association, the Bank provided several educational initiatives and it harnessed its channels to raise and spread awareness of the disease. It also contributed in the distribution of special bulletins on the disease within the General Administration of Men and the General Administration of Women buildings. Furthermore, prevention, diagnosis and treatment methods provided by Dr. Shahad Al Yousif from the Alzheimer's Association to all the bank's employees.

The Bank's interest in this event stems from its belief in the importance of concerted efforts among all sectors in these international events to raise the level of awareness among the community to assist the diagnosis of patients at the beginning of the disease and thus facilitate treatment and the ability to integrate with patients after that, as the bank is always keen to participate in most global health days and contribute to these events.

It is worth mentioning that Alzheimer’s disease is a neurological disease that destroys brain cells, leading to memory, thinking and behavior problems that severely affect the work and lives of people with Alzheimer's disease.

The most important cause of the disease is the disorder of brain proteins (whose causes are still unknown,) genetics, age, and head injuries. The disease affects more than 50 million people around the world and 50% of people with the disease do not know about the fact that they are infected. The disease affects almost 60% of women compared to men and patients get infected with Alzheimer’s around the age of 50 years and symptoms include memory loss, difficulty completing familiar tasks, confusion, difficulty in the interpretation of visual images, determining distances, problems selecting appropriate words during dialogue and writing, putting things in the wrong place, social isolation and mood changes as well as difficulties in planning and problem solving.

The Bank's efforts are in line with the Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to reach one million volunteers. It also corresponds with the nature of the society and its culture, which encourages cooperation and solidarity in activities that serve the public interest. This activity falls under the activities of social responsibility and volunteerism in 2018, which is an extension of many programs that were adopted throughout the year to serve most segments of society in all regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
